Categories
Categories organize your inventory into a browsable structure. They appear as navigation on your storefront and can have pricing rules applied at the category level.
Creating a category
- Go to Categories in the sidebar
- Click Add Category
- Fill in the details:
- Name (required) — the internal name for this category
- Display Name (optional) — how it appears to customers on your storefront
- Description (optional) — a brief description shown on the storefront
- Parent Category (optional) — select a parent to create a subcategory
- Click Save
Category hierarchy
Categories support nesting — you can create subcategories inside parent categories to any depth.
Example:
Construction Equipment
├── Excavators
│ ├── Mini Excavators
│ └── Standard Excavators
├── Loaders
└── Compactors
On your storefront, customers can browse from top-level categories down to specific subcategories, filtering the inventory as they go.
Moving a category
To change a category's parent:
- Click the edit (pencil) icon on the category
- Change the Parent Category dropdown
- Click Save
All items in that category (and its subcategories) will appear under the new parent on your storefront.
Assigning items to categories
When you create or edit an inventory item, select its category from the Category dropdown. Each item belongs to one category.
To reassign items in bulk:
- Go to Inventory
- Select multiple items using the checkboxes
- Use the bulk action menu to change their category
Category-level rules
You can apply pricing and business rules to an entire category instead of individual items. This is useful when all items in a category should have the same pricing logic.
Example: Set a "Winter Discount" rule on the "Outdoor Equipment" category to apply 20% off during November through February. Every item in that category gets the discount automatically.
Category rules are configured in Rules — see Rules Management for details.
Deleting a category
- Click the delete (trash) icon next to the category
- Confirm the deletion
Deleting a category does not delete the items in it. Items in a deleted category become uncategorized and still appear in your inventory. Reassign them to another category to keep your storefront organized.
